W tekście z linka pojawiło się zdanie: "In the survey, 3% of U.S. adults indicated they never eat meat, poultry and fish/seafood. They were classified as vegetarian. Of this group, one percent also never eat dairy, eggs, and honey, and were classified as vegan.", z czego wnioskuję, że 0,09% dorosłych Amerykanów jest weganami, nie zaś 1% - jak sugeruje lista. Ta lista wygląda więc tak, jakby procenty nie odnosiły się do jednego 100%, którym byłby ogół dorosłych Amerykanów

0,09% z 306mln populacji daje 275,400 wegan w USA.

Czy ja mogę szerzej? :-) Przecież to nie ja robiłem te badanie. Rzeczywiście jest tu niekonsekwencja. Trzeba by się spytać autorów sondażu.

Masz na myśli chyba środkowy zachód?

To co mi od razu przychodzi do głowy, to to, że w skład "zachodu" wchodzą stany nad Pacyfikiem, które są bardziej "ekologicznie uświadomione" (np. Kalifornia, Oregon). A środkowy zachód to tradycyjne "farmerskie" stany (np. Iowa, Kansas, dwie Dakoty) .

Natomiast nie bardzo rozumiem, Twoje wyliczenia liczby wegan skoro na stronie napisano:

In the survey, 3% of U.S. adults indicated they never eat meat, poultry, and fish/seafood. They were classified as vegetarian. About 1/3 to 1/4 of the vegetarians (one percent of the U.S. adult population) also never eat dairy, eggs, and honey, and were classified as vegan.

Czyli 1% Amerykanów to weganie. A nie jeden procent wegetarian to weganie...

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has estimated that about 1.5% of adults followed a vegetarian diet in 2007, about the same number as in 2002.

But those numbers may be lowballs because the poll questions catch people who use vegetarianism only to address health, not ideological, concerns, says Reed Mangels, a registered dietitian in Amherst, Mass., and one of the authors of the American Dietetic Assn. report.

Polls by the Vegetarian Resource Group find that among adults, vegetarianism has become slowly and steadily more popular in the last 15 years, says Mangels, who is a nutrition advisor for the advocacy organization.

In 1994, the group estimated that 1% of American adults were true vegetarians, eating diets free of meat, fish and seafood. Today, about 3% of American adults (between 6 million and 8 million people) avoid those foods, according to the vegetarian group's 2009 poll of more than 2,000 people.

The stats for children also differ depending on source. A recent CDC poll of about 9,000 parents and guardians found that 367,000 kids under the age of 18 -- or about 1 in 200 -- are vegetarian. Again, Mangels says the true rates may be higher. A 2005 Vegetarian Resource Group poll of more than 1,200 young people estimated that 3% of 8- to 18-year-olds (about 1.5 million kids) were vegetarian and 1% were vegan".

Dla zbieraczy danych:

1. http://www.vrg.org/press/youth_poll_2010.php

Short Description:
This 2010 survey of U.S. youths (ages 8-18) by the Vegetarian Resource Group indicates that 7% say they never eat meat, while 3% are vegetarian (never eat meat, poultry, or fish). The survey indicates that approximately 1% of youths are vegan, depending on the inclusion of honey.

Abstract:

This survey found that about one-third of younger vegetarians (1% of the U.S. youth population) are vegans, claiming that they never eat dairy, eggs, and honey. About the same number said they are vegan except for honey. Therefore the total population of U.S. youths considered either vegan or vegan except for honey equals 2% of the total U.S. youth population.
Overall, the youth vegetarian population in the U.S. is about 1.4 million, while about three million never eat meat (but may eat poultry or fish/seafood.

Other survey findings:

  • 22% never eat fish
  • 7% never eat poultry
  • 7% never eat meat
  • 11% never eat eggs
  • 6% never eat dairy products
  • 21% never eat honey
  • 3% are vegetarian
  • 2% are vegan (includes 1% who eat honey)
  • 3% male vegetarians
  • 3% female vegetarians

2. http://www.mmr-research.com/news/46/sur ... rian-week/

Short Description:
This study of United Kingdom consumers by MMR Research Worldwide shows that vegetarians represent about 6% of the UK adult population and that "lapsed vegetarians" represent about 10% of the population. The vegetarians surveyed expressed dissatisfaction with the food offerings available to them in both supermarkets and fast food restaurants.

Abstract:

Major findings from this survey of nearly 6,000 UK vegetarians:

  • 10% of lapsed vegetarians say they moved away from this lifestyle due to health and nutrition concerns.
  • Vegetarians are 27% more likely to buy supplements than non-vegetarians; 50% of vegetarians regularly take vitamin supplements (compared with 36% of non-vegetarians) and 26% of vegetarians regularly take mineral supplements (compared with 15% of non-vegetarians).
  • 22% of UK vegetarians are not satisfied with the vegetarian options in their supermarkets.
  • Slightly less than half of UK vegetarians are unhappy with the vegetarian choices available in convenience stores.
  • More than three-quarters (76%) of UK vegetarians are unhappy with the vegetarian food options available to them in fast food restaurants.
  • UK vegetarians are primarily concerned with the diversity and availability of ready meals, frozen foods, and meat substitutes.
