Silk and other vegan products could be produced by independent companies with no ties to big, morally-questionable corporations, but, unfortunately, in our dog-eat-dog world of capitalism, sometimes the little guys have to catch a ride with the big guys in order to reach as broad of a market as possible. If Silk weren't attached to Dean, it's quite possible that you couldn't find it in big grocery chains like Jewel and therefore veganism wouldn't be as accessible to folks that don't like in metropolitan areas with stores like Whole Foods, Trader Joes, or smaller independent health food stores. I'm willing to accept the trade-off of association with Dean Foods for a successful vegan company".
Ale to nie jest takie proste - wspomniane wyżej sklepy Whole Foods czy Trader Joes, nie są wprawdzie typowymi supermarketami, ale jak najbardziej handlują mięsem i nabiałem. Nie jestem pewna czy wręcz nie markują też mięsa i nabiału.
W takim razie to czy wesprzemy koncern Dean Foods czy też Trader Joes nie wiele się różni. Chyba tyle tylko, że ten drugi handluje nabiałem i mięsem "ekologicznym".
Można by samemu wytwarzać mleko, ale wtedy możemy natknąć się na problem pochodzenia ziaren i powiązań handlowych ich sprzedawcy.
